Description

Step into the early 15th century with our Italian Churburg CH18 Breastplate, a detailed reproduction of the armor kept in the famous Churburg collection, dated around 1410–1420. This cuirass represented an important step forward from the earlier 14th-century globose breastplates and coats of plates, giving knights and men-at-arms better protection and a more refined appearance.

The carefully shaped form is not only striking in its look but also highly practical, built to deflect incoming strikes and provide improved defense during battle. Breastplates of this style were worn by wealthy knights and professional soldiers who valued both safety and status on the field.

This piece is handcrafted from 16 gauge mild steel, weighing approx. 7 kg (depending on size), and fitted with several genuine leather straps for an adjustable and secure fit. Both the inside and outside are polished to help prevent corrosion, while the strong construction ensures lasting durability for reenactments, SCA combat, or display.

For a complete historical impression, this breastplate can be paired with a gambeson or arming doublet and a chainmail shirt (sold separately), just as medieval warriors would have worn in the 15th century.

Materials:

  • Breastplate: 16 Gauge Mild Steel

  • Straps & Buckles: Genuine Leather

Weight:

  • Approx. 7 kg (varies by size)

Care Instructions:

  • Delivered with a protective oil coating – wipe off before first use, and always reapply oil after handling.

  • Keep the armor clean and dry after every use to avoid rust.

  • Apply a light coat of oil to the steel regularly for long-term preservation.

  • Treat leather straps with balm or oil to prevent drying or cracking.

  • Store in a dry, ventilated space, away from damp conditions.

Note:

This Medieval Breastplate is a handcrafted item, so small differences in finish, rivet placement, or shape may be present, giving each piece authentic character.
