Saint Wenceslaus Nasal Helmet with Leather Liner 16 gauge

Our Saint Wenceslaus helmet is directly inspired by a richly decorated 10th-century original currently exhibited in Prague, probably the oldest nasal helmet ever found. For centuries nasal helmet has been THE most popular helmet in most parts of Europe because of its versatility and good balance between protection and mobility.

This helmet is handmade from 16 gauge MILD STEEL with a polished finish. The height (of the dome) is about 22 cm, the inner depth from front to back at eye level measures about 25.5 cm, the inner width at ear level is about 21.3 cm, and the nasal protection is about 9 cm long. This helmet has an inner circumference of 68 cm (before leather liner attachment) and will fit most head circumferences from about 58cm to 61-62cm, depending on the shape of the wearer’s head. If you desire to wear an additional padded cap, then measure your head circumference while wearing it. (The adjustable GENUINE LEATHER LINER already attached inside the helmet is often enough for most adult male heads). A sturdy chin strap with a lovely buckle ensures your helmet stays in place during battles. Weighs about 2 Kg 200 grams.

The Bayeux tapestry, depicting the Norman invasion of Saxon England, features this nasal helmet that was popular at the time. During the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror had to lift this specific helmet to prove he was alive after rumors of his death spread through his army!
