Olmutz Nasal 11th Century Helmet with Chainmail Camail 12 gauge

Our Olmutz Nasal helmet is directly based on the 11th-century helmet found in Olmutz modern-day Czech Republic and on numerous other similar finds from the lake Orchowskie, Hradsko and Lake Lednice. This type of one-piece nasal helmet seems to have been especially common between the 9th and the 13th century.

For centuries nasal helmet has been THE most popular helmet in most parts of Europe because of its versatility and good balance between protection and mobility. For example, it proved ubiquitous on the Bayeux tapestry representing the invasion of Saxon England by the Norman knights and footmen of William the conqueror. Speaking of whom, one specific incident at the Battle of Hastings, illustrated on the Bayeux tapestry, reveals how William the Conqueror had to lift his nasal helmet to show his troops that he was still alive after rumour of his death has spread in his army.

This beautiful nasal helmet is HANDMADE from tough 12-gauge mild steel, lined with a comfortable and secure leather liner. The helmet comes with a 68 cm inner circumference, which can allow it to fit almost all head sizes. For added protection, this helmet comes with a robust chainmail camail (constituting rings of 16 gauge MILD STEEL wire, with 10 mm diameter each, riveted using round rivets), significantly protecting the nape.
