Description

These Milanese mitten gauntlets are faithfully inspired by Italian armour of the late Middle Ages, designed for both authenticity and performance. Favoured by knights in heavy tournament combat, the mitten style offered superior hand and wrist protection while still allowing a functional grip.

The overlapping plates, broad knuckle guard, and segmented wrist lames replicate the classic Milanese style that dominated European armour design in the late 14th–15th centuries. With suede-lined interiors, these gauntlets provide both comfort and control, making them ideal for extended wear in reenactment battles, LARP, or stage combat.

Perfect For:

  • Historical & medieval tournaments

  • LARP & fantasy costuming

  • Stage combat, theatre, & film productions

  • Collectors of authentic knightly armour

  • Museum-style or home display pieces

Care Instructions:

Cleaning After Use

  • Wipe steel surfaces with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove fingerprints & moisture.

  • For stubborn marks, use a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately.

Rust Prevention

  • Apply a thin coat of light machine oil or armour preservation oil to all steel surfaces.

  • Pay attention to rivets, hinges, and overlapping plates where moisture may hide.

Leather Care

  • Keep suede lining dry. If damp, air-dry naturally (avoid direct heat).

  • Condition leather occasionally with a pH-balanced conditioner to maintain flexibility.

Storage

  • Store in a dry, low-humidity environment.

  • Use a breathable cloth bag (such as the included drawstring pouch).

  • Avoid plastic storage which traps moisture.

Long-Term Maintenance

  • Check periodically for tarnish or rust.

  • Reapply oil when storing for long periods.

Note

Each pair is handmade, so minor variations in finish, riveting, or leather work may occur. These small differences highlight the individuality of traditional medieval armour.
