Description
With this Viking Bronze Knotwork Brooch, which has its roots in the creative and spiritual traditions of the Northlands from the ninth to the eleventh centuries, you can enter the realm of Norse mythology and seafaring heroes. This spherical brooch, which is based on surviving Viking design motifs, has entwined beast-like formations that are thought to represent the binding forces of fate, protection, and perpetual strength.
Every brooch is made with the age-old lost-wax casting method, which involves shaping the pattern in wax, covering it with clay, and then firing it until the wax melts away. After that, the hollow mould is filled with molten bronze to create a detailed one-piece casting. Once found on cloaks, tunics, and ceremonial garments, the creative richness of Norse metalwork is captured in each knot, curve, and beast-head thanks to this painstaking procedure.
The brooch is both ornamental and practical, with a strong integrated pin on the back to fasten your cloak securely during marches, feasts, or gatherings. The bronze develops a rich patina over time, deepening its historic charm and evoking the age of long ships and sagas.
