Description
Keys were more than just useful tools in Viking society; they were also significant symbols of authority. They were worn publicly or strung as a pendant, symbolising a woman’s responsibility for domestic goods, wealth, and family resources. Numerous tomb findings from places such as Birka and Hedeby have revealed similar keys, many of which are made of bronze and richly decorated.
This Viking key pendant takes direct influence from such historical relics. The top is topped with interlaced knot work, which represents unity and protection, while the shank has a spiral twist and terminates in a classic key bit shape. The item, which is entirely made of solid bronze and has an antique finish, is both exquisite and meaningful.
Its total length is approximately 6.3 cm, with the knot work top measuring about 3 cm wide, making it bold enough for period outfits and subtle enough for modern wear. It comes ready to wear with a 2mm adjustable black leather cord, ensuring a comfortable fit for any look.
