Description
This solid bronze Hiddensee Cross pendant is based on one of the most treasured finds of the Viking Age, dated to the late 9th–early 10th century. The original, found on the island of Hiddensee, is believed to have belonged to a wealthy Norse family—possibly of royal descent.
The design reflects a cultural crossroads: its interlaced patterns and animal motifs echo pagan artistry, while its cruciform shape shows the arrival of Christianity in Scandinavia. Our recreation captures that same blend of strength, devotion, and artistry in detailed, raised knot-work.
Each pendant is hand-cast in solid bronze using the ancient lost-wax method, then given an antique patina to mirror the aged beauty of the original. It comes ready to wear with a fully adjustable black leather cord, making it equally suited for daily wear, historical clothing, or display.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The Hiddensee hoard, discovered in 1873, is one of the most significant Viking Age treasure finds in Northern Europe. This pendant’s design symbolizes the transitional era when Norse warriors, traders, and rulers were influenced by Christian Europe while holding fast to their own traditions. Such pieces were not only jewelry but statements of identity and belief.
