Description
16 Gauge Steel Construction
These 14th Century Roundel Spaulders are crafted from durable 16 gauge mild steel, for reliable protection. Each roundel has a polished steel finish that depicts the appearance of historical armour, while the edges are trimmed with thick genuine leather. The leather border not only enhances the overall look but also strengthens the edge of the plate for better durability. Riveted construction makes the leather remain securely attached during repeated use.
Inspired by Medieval Roundel Armour
These shoulder roundels are based on armour commonly used during the 14th century, when knights began using chainmail with steel plates for better protection. Simple steel roundels were developed to defend vulnerable areas that mail could not fully protect. The 14th Century Roundel Spaulders became a practical solution during the transition from mail armour to full plate armour.
Dual Versatile Protection for Shoulder and Armpit
These 14th century roundel armor plates can be worn in two traditional ways. They may be laced directly over the shoulders as lightweight spaulders to protect the shoulder joint, or positioned slightly lower as besagews to guard the exposed armpit area. Their dished shape helps deflect incoming blows with allowing freedom of movement.
Built for Historical Events and Combat
Designed with both inspiration and durability in mind, these Medieval shoulder armor roundels are suitable for historical combat, reenactments, LARP, Renaissance fairs, cosplay, stage performances, light combat training, costume use, and display.
Care & Maintenance
- Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth after each use.
- Apply a light coat of oil occasionally to help maintain the steel finish.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from prolonged moisture.
- The leather edging can be treated occasionally with leather conditioner to maintain its flexibility.
Note: Each pair of Knight shoulder guards is individually handcrafted. Slight variations in polish, leather colour, rivet placement, and surface finish are natural characteristics.

The moment I donned the 14th Century Light Roundel Spaulders, I felt a surge of authenticity. During a recent reenactment event, these spaulders were an absolute game-changer. Not only did they provide excellent coverage, but their lightweight design enabled me to move freely while still maintaining a historical look. The craftsmanship is clear, with the leather edges adding both style and sturdiness to the spaulders. After several hours of wear, I was impressed with how well they held up against the rigors of battle simulation. My only minor critique is that the leather cords could be a tad longer for easier lacing, but that’s a small flaw in an otherwise fantastic product. I wholeheartedly recommend these spaulders to enthusiasts looking for both protection and a touch of medieval flair.

These 14th Century Light Roundel Spaulders exceeded my expectations! Right out of the box, the quality of the steel and leather edges was impressive. I wore them during a reenactment, and they not only provided excellent shoulder protection but also allowed for easy movement. I was initially worried about the sizing since armor can be tricky, but these fit perfectly. The ‘one size fits most’ feature worked wonders for me, and they didn’t feel cumbersome at all. The leather cords made securing them a breeze, and I appreciated the extra laces included. After a full day in the field, I can confidently say they held up wonderfully without any signs of wear. Overall, they are a great investment for anyone serious about medieval reenactments or armor collection. They make a fantastic statement piece that reflects my love for history!
