Description
In the 15th century, plate armor reached its peak, especially in German regions which were known for their advanced armor-making. As warfare evolved, protecting joints like the elbows became very important, because they were exposed during combat. These elbow cops are also known as couters, were made to shield the vulnerable elbow areas without restricting movement.
German armors had fluted designs not just for decoration but also to strengthen the steel without giving extra weight. These ridges helped in deflecting blows.
They also connected upper arm defenses with forearm protection. Their careful shaping shows the progress medieval armorers achieved for protection, movement, and comfort.
These Elbow cops are a faithful reproduction of 15th-century German elbow protection, to guard the joint with freedom of movement. Hand-forged from durable 16 or 18 gauge mild steel, they are protective and have a historically authentic look.
During the late Middle Ages, elbow protection became an important part of full plate armor. German Gothic armor is known for its elegant shaping and fluted surfaces. These couters follow the same designs. Each pair has curved steel plates with period-style fluting with polish. The one size fits all size design has secure leather straps and buckles that help in adjustment and give a stable fit on most arm sizes. The ergonomic shape allows the arm to bend naturally, so they are comfortable for long wear.
These work well as Elbow cops armor for medieval LARP events and stage performances. They can be paired with a gambeson or worn as part of a full armor set. As elbow armor, they give joint coverage without restricting motion. Commonly referred to as elbow couters, they are also valued by collectors as steel elbow cops for display.
The Elbow cops are intended for costume use and performance.
