Description
This medieval Quatrefoil belt mount set of 5 is inspired by the original designs of the 15th century from late medieval Europe. The quatrefoil design has four overlapping round lobes which were seen quite often in the Gothic and early Renaissance periods in architecture as well as accessories.
Archaeological discoveries have shown that these mounts were used often by people to decorate and strengthen their leather belts or bags. They added a beautiful detail to their personal items as well as a touch for heraldry.
Each medieval decoration mount is made from solid brass, which was very popular in the Middle Ages because it was strong, lightweight and naturally resistant to rust. Brass keeps its shape well and needs very little maintenance. Brass forms a natural patina with time which gives a beautiful dark look.
The back of each mount has two prongs. These are made to be pushed through leather and carefully bent flat using pliers, making attachment fast and secure. This makes them ideal for historical leather projects and costume work.
This set can be used as belt decorations to medieval belts, pouches, and accessories, as well as for general leather decoration for crafts. As a classic medieval decoration, the quatrefoil adds detail without overpowering the overall design.
