From Battlefields to Blockbusters: The Lord of Battles Group
DEHRADUN, India – When Captain Saurabh Mahajan took early retirement from the Indian Army two decades ago, he could hardly have imagined that his next mission would take him from military service to creating handcrafted armor and historical equipment for some of the world’s biggest film and television productions, like the Game of Thrones, The Hobbit, as well as the recent HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Founded in 2006, Lord of Battles began as a specialist chainmail manufacturer in Dehradun, India. With a foundation built on military discipline, craftsmanship and historical research, the company gradually expanded into manufacturing medieval armor, historical replicas, leather accessories, costume equipment and reenactment gear for collectors, museums, LARP and HEMA enthusiasts, theatres and global productions.
Having served in the prestigious Armored Corps of the Indian Army, Capt. Saurabh Mahajan brought the values of precision, discipline and attention to detail into the world of historical craftsmanship. What started with a small team supplying chainmail to buyers in Australia and the United Kingdom soon grew into an internationally recognized manufacturing company.
A major breakthrough came in 2007, when Lord of Battles created props and costume pieces for the British television series Merlin. This opened the doors to international film and television collaborations, where the company became known for its craftsmanship, reliability and ability to meet demanding production timelines.
In 2019, Lord of Battles achieved SMETA certification, recognizing its commitment to ethical manufacturing and responsible production practices.
Over the years, Lord of Battles has supplied handcrafted armor, chainmail, and historical equipment to multiple internationally recognized productions, including The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Rings of Power, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Outlaw King, The Bastard Executioner, Assassin’s Creed and Merlin. The company has also contributed to Russian and French productions such as Kolovrat, Excalibur and Treasures of Lake Kaban, further establishing its presence across global entertainment industries.
In 2020, Lord of Battles expanded internationally through its investment in Connecticut-based Mythrojan LLC, with its founder Keith Wescovich joining the organization as a Director. This was followed by the establishment of Medieworld Europe SL in Spain in 2022, creating a stronger distribution network across the United States, Europe, Australia, and Singapore. The group also acquired the historic U.S. brand House of Warfare, expanding its presence.
Innovation continues to be an important part of Lord of Battles’ growth. By using traditional craftsmanship with modern technologies such as 3D printing and AI-assisted design, the company continues to develop new methods of creating detailed historical replicas and costume pieces.
A significant milestone in Lord of Battles’ 20-year journey came with special recognition from the costume department of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Today, Lord of Battles continues its mission of connecting history, craftsmanship, and imagination, from the workshops of Dehradun to the sound stages of Hollywood. For Capt. Saurabh Mahajan and his team, every creation represents more than a product, it represents a story, a tradition and a bridge between the past and the present.
