Description
This Quilted hood is a medieval-style arming hood which is made to be worn under helmets, mail coifs or plate armor. In the Middle Ages, padded hoods were important for absorbing impact, preventing chafing, and helping armor sit properly on the body. They formed the foundation of a knight’s protective layers.
The hood is made with a three-layer construction. The outer shell is durable cotton canvas, while the inner padding uses a recycled multi-fibre blend of cotton, wool, and polyester. This combination gives excellent shock absorption while being breathable and comfortable during long wear.
The extended quilted collar protects the neck, shoulders and upper chest, which are exposed when wearing plate or mail armor. This added coverage helps reduce blunt force impact from strikes that slip past outer armor and prevents metal edges from rubbing directly against the body.
The quilting helps in natural movement of the head and shoulders without stiffness. A leather strap with a brass buckle secures the hood firmly, for a stable fit. Shoulder attachment points allow armor pieces to be tied directly to the collar, keeping pauldrons from shifting during movement.
This piece works perfectly as a padded hood under helmets, a medieval hood, or a padded cap for comfort. The quilted collar and padded collar design improve stability, safety for LARP, stage combat, and historical display.
