These chainmail medieval voiders are crafted from 9mm alternating dome riveted and solid flat rings, for durability with flexibility. Hand riveted from 18-gauge mild steel, they are lighter than heavier mail but still provide reliable protection in the critical/vulnerable areas under and around the arms.
The voiders are built in the European 4-in-1 weave, ensuring historical accuracy and a comfortable drape over padded garments. The blackened finish adds an extra layer of rust resistance while giving the mail a rugged, battle-worn appearance, ideal for stage and screen where glare reduction is important under strong lighting.
These pieces are designed to be sewn or laced into a gambeson or arming doublet, providing easy integration with plate harnesses. They offer vital defense in gaps where plate alone would leave the wearer vulnerable.
As plate armor developed in the 14th and 15th centuries, full mail shirts were gradually replaced with voiders, smaller sections of mail worn under the arms and on the inner sleeves to protect areas plate could not cover.
