Description
This Penannular Circle brooch is a functional and historically inspired brooch pin which is made from pure sild brass which has an antique finish. The design is the classic famously known as the penannular design with an open circular ring and a moving pin, this helps the fabrics to be secured properly by rotating the ring and locking the cloth against the pin.
Penannular brooches were used a lot during the early medieval period by Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, and Viking cultures. These brooch pins were not for just decorative use but majorly for functional use. The open-ring design helped in adjusting the garments easily as per one’s preference and they were even strong enough to hold heavy wool garments. This style was later evolved into what is commonly called the Ring brooch.
This piece is cased by hand from pure brass which gives it a look which is very similar to the old designs. The ring is textured and has geometric knob ends for visual appeal. Because this brass brooch is made from pure brass, it is durable, sturdy as well as resistant to corrosion so will not stain your garments and even develops a patina with age.
With about 6 cm in diameter, this Circle brooch is suitable for use on cloaks, tunics, shawls etc. It works great for your LAARP events, stage use, costumes or even for themed events and daily wear with modern shawls. Its design closely resembles the designs of the historically seen Medieval brooch and is an example of a traditional penannular brooch.
