From Battlefields to Blockbusters: The Lord of Battles Group

DEHRADUN, India — When Captain Saurabh Mahajan took early retirement from the Indian Army two decades ago, he could hardly have envisioned his next mission: outfitting Hollywood epics like Game of Thrones and The Hobbit.

Today, his Lord of Battles Group, headquartered in Dehradun, is a global leader in model ancient weaponry and medieval armor, blending artistry, innovation, and a military ethos to redefine a niche industry.

Having served in the prestigious armored corps of the Indian Army—a corps known for its gallantry as well as the ceremonial armor worn by its officers—Mahajan’s transition to historical armory was perhaps a natural progression.

In 2005, Saurabh Mahajan founded SN Worldwide Exports Pvt Ltd, which started with chainmail manufacturing and soon graduated to creating a whole array of handmade medieval armor and battle gear that today reaches markets across Europe, America, and Australia.

Starting with supplying chainmail to small Australian and British buyers, he achieved a breakthrough in 2007 when Lord of Battles created props for the British TV series Merlin. Soon, the company began to manufacture a whole range of handmade model armor and battle gear, with a focus on research, design precision, and aesthetic appeal.

Word of mouth helped the brand grow as much for its product appeal as for its ethical conduct and promise of delivery, especially meeting tight production deadlines. The company was quickly sought after by major theater productions, including the Royal Shakespeare Theater Co. Soon, major production houses turned to Mahajan’s enterprise and Lord of Battles worked on the costumes for the much-acclaimed Game of Thrones and later, Assassin’s Creed.

Productions now included not only Hollywood with The Hobbit and Outlaw King but also the Russian and French film industry with KolvaratExcaliburTreasures of Lake Kaban and more. In 2019, its commitment to quality earned the prestigious SMETA certification, affirming European standards for ethical and sustainable production—a rare honor for an Indian firm in this sector.

In 2020, Mahajan invested in the Connecticut-based Mythrojan LLC, making it the first foreign arm of Lord of Battles Group, and its founder, Keith Wescovich, joined Lord of Battles as a full-time Director. Going forward, Lord of Battles under the able leadership of Captain Saurabh Mahajan founded Medieworld Europe SL in Spain in 2022, building a distribution network spanning the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Singapore.

This global reach enabled them to acquire the major U.S. historical replica brand House of Warfare and secure a landmark contract to supply the House of the Dragon franchise.

Lord of Battles has also embraced innovation, acquiring firms in Ireland and India to refine its craft and launching Mythrojan Global Inc. in the U.S. to pioneer 3D printing and AI-driven design. These advancements promise to revolutionize replica production, merging traditional artistry with cutting-edge technology.

Starting with just three craftsmen, Lord of Battles today employs over 140 artisans and professionals, injecting millions of dollars into the local economy. Mahajan’s military discipline, honed at the National Defense Academy, fosters a family-like culture in which employees take pride in being storytellers through their craftsmanship. Many staff remain for years and now rotate to the company’s global offices, gaining global exposure.

As 2025 begins, excitement pulses through the Dehradun headquarters. With new film projects and technological ventures on the horizon, Lord of Battles is poised to expand its legacy. For Mahajan and his team, with Wescovich serving as a key director, the mission transcends profit: it’s about bridging cultures—from Dehradun’s workshops to Hollywood’s soundstages—and crafting artifacts that endure both on screen and in history.
