Description
These Horn Toggle Buttons are made from ethically sourced ox horn and sold as a set of five pieces. Each toggle is smooth, carefully polished and has two pre-drilled holes for easy and fast fastening. The natural brown surface look has its own grain patterns which are all unique because it is formed by nature itself .
Horn has been used for buttons and fasteners for years. In medieval and early modern times, horn was chosen for a lot of utility materials as it was easily available, strong and had a unique look. Unlike wood, horn could be moulded into a choice of shapes, and unlike metal, it did not rust or give extra weight. Therefore, historical garments used toggles on coats, cloaks, and heavy outerwear.
These toggles have the same practical shape like historical Toggle Horn Buttons and horn toggle button designs. The elongated shape spreads tension evenly and properly so these are perfect for heavy winter wear. The two-holes which come pre-drilled help the toggle to be sewn and secured.
The ox horn toggles are strong enough for daily use and have very little weight. Their natural finish makes them ideal as brown horn toggles for historical clothing, LARP gear, coats or cloaks.
