Description
These Early Medieval Toggle Shoes are inspired by excavated footwear from the historic city of Jorvik (modern-day York) a key Viking settlement in England during the 9th and 10th centuries. In this period, Norse warriors and settlers controlled a lot of parts of England, and left behind artifacts with craftsmanship like these ankle boots.
Handcrafted from genuine leather, these shoes show the look and function of originals found in archaeological places. They have a double toggle closure system, a hallmark of Saxon footwear, in which rolled leather buttons and loops are used to secure and adjust the fit.
The soles of the Jorvik Shoes are flat like the early medieval period. Made for natural terrain, these boots were commonly worn by both Norsemen and Anglo-Saxons in daily life.
Our medieval footwear follows men’s sizing. Since these Jorvik Turn Shoes are unisex, women are advised to use a men’s-to-women’s size conversion chart to find their best fit.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
While these Early Medieval Toggle Shoes follow authentic historical construction, they are not designed for modern surfaces like gravel or concrete. The soles were never meant for such terrain in the Middle Ages. For outdoor longevity and comfort, we recommend:
- Cleaning: Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt. Do not soak. Avoid harsh chemicals or modern shoe polishes.
- Conditioning: Regularly apply natural leather balm to prevent the leather from drying and cracking.
- Drying: If wet, allow to air-dry slowly at room temperature. Do not place near a heater, in direct sunlight, or use a hairdryer, this may cause warping or stiffness.
- Storage: Keep the Jorvik Viking Shoes in a cool, dry place. Stuff with clean cloth or paper to retain shape.
Note- These Early Medieval Toggle Shoes are made from Genuine Leather hence variations in grain, texture, and tone are normal.
