Description
15th Century Medieval Armour
The German sallet helmet is one of the defining helmets of late medieval times, in 15th-century Germany and spreading across Europe for its mix of protection, vision, and mobility. This shows the authentic lines and shaping of the original German sallet, for both use and display.
Authentic Medieval German Helmet Design: This has a rounded skull cap made from steel in your choice of 14-gauge or 16-gauge thickness. Its pivoting visor is shaped with a wide, horizontal eye-slit for visibility with facial protection.
At the back, the flared tail typical of 15th century sallet armour, extends down to protect the back of the head and neck. This design made the steel sallet a favorite among knights, cavalry, and infantry units.
Interior Comfort & Secure Fit: Inside, this is fitted with a padded liner that cushions the head and distributes weight evenly. A leather chin strap with buckle gives a secure fit during use.
Historical Significance of the Sallet Helmet: During the late Middle Ages, the medieval german helmet evolved into one of the most recognized armour styles. Sallets were paired with a bevor to guard the lower face, for both offensive and defensive moves.
German armourers refined the sallet helmet into a sleek, elegant form for superior mobility compared to earlier great helms.
