Description
This pendant is made from solid bronze with lost wax casting method for extra detailing. It is inspired by the famous Hiddensee Treasure, which was a very important Viking-Age gold find from the Baltic island of Hiddensee in the 19th century.
The treasure had sixteen gold pieces, a large neck ring, a disc brooch, several cross pendants and decorative connecting elements. The crosses are actually famous for the detailed work on them, with bird-head terminals and fine decorations. These designs show a different mixture of Christian symbolism with traditional Viking elements, which shows a time when Norse culture was gradually adopting Christianity.
This Hiddensee Treasure inspired piece recreates original cross pendants in solid bronze. The pendant has the proportions and details just like the original.
It works well as a Viking cross pendant as it has a 2 mm thick genuine leather cord which is adjustable for costume use or as a meaningful accessory. As a bronze cross pendant, it has a warm tone and even forms a patina with time. It can also be worn simply as a bronze pendant. This design is often referred to as Hiddensee pendant, because it is an inspired replica from the Viking treasures preserved today in the Stralsund Museum of Cultural History.
