Description

14th Century Kettle Hat Helmet : This is inspired by the iconic headgear worn in the 14th and 15th centuries, throughout the Hundred Years’ War. Widely used by archers, infantry, and pikemen, its wide brim protected soldiers from downward strikes, arrows and debris. This design shows the Medieval kettle hat style, also known historically as the Chapel-de-Fer.

Hand-crafted from 16-gauge mild steel, the helmet has a domed skull with riveted steel bands, an authentic hallmark of period originals. The broad, flared brim gives a complete 360° protection, making this 14th century kettle hat both functional and historically accurate.

Interior Liner & Comfort: Inside, the kettle hat helmet has a comfortable leather liner for extended wear with an adjustable chin strap. Whether used for combat, LARP events, or medieval displays, this gives both practicality and stability. The overall domed shape and riveted band design align closely with traditional kettle hat medieval helmets seen in surviving artifacts.

Historical Significance – The Chapel-de-Fer: Its wide brim made it valuable against ranged attacks and its open-face increased visibility and breathability. With time, the kettle hat adapted, but its defensive shape remained a constant feature in medieval armies.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Wipe clean after each use to remove moisture or dirt
  • Apply a thin coat of oil to prevent rust
  • Store in a dry helmet bag or cloth wrap
  • Condition leather liner and straps occasionally

Note: Each helmet is individually made so variations in rivet placement, polishing, or liner naturally occur.
