Our late medieval Fluted Steel Cuirass is inspired by 15th and early 16th century Gothic plate armor. This chestplate reflects the evolution of European armor during the height of the medieval battlefield, where knights required not only maximum protection but also freedom of movement for mounted and foot combat.

The fluted design, apart from its striking visual appeal, was an essential of Gothic armory. Historically, these ridges were not just decorative but served to reinforce the steel, making it more resistant to blows and adding rigidity without extra weight. This armor combines strength and mobility, essential qualities for both tournament and battlefield.

Crafted from your choice of 16 or 18 gauge mild steel, this cuirass is hand-crafted  to balance durability with wear ability. Its split-front and articulated construction allows for fluid easy movement, ensuring agility in high-action scenarios. Inside and out, the steel is polished to prevent corrosion, while sturdy leather straps and buckles secure the cuirass to the body. At approx. 6.5 kg, it provides solid protection without being overly cumbersome.

This armor is designed to be worn over a padded gambeson or arming doublet, just as knights of the late medieval period would have done, ensuring both comfort and additional shock absorption.

Care Instructions:

• This armor arrives coated with protective oil. Wipe off excess oil before use, but always reapply a thin layer of machine oil after handling.

• After each wear, clean and dry the cuirass to prevent rust.

• Store in a dry, ventilated area; avoid damp environments.

• For long-term storage, lightly oil all metal surfaces.

• Leather straps can be conditioned with leather balm to prevent drying and cracking.
