Description
The Bodkin arrow is a medieval arrowhead design that was well known for its narrow shape and strong ability to penetrate mail and armor. Unlike wide heads, this type of arrowhead was made to focus into a small area, so it is especially effective against chainmail.
This design first came to light in the early medieval period and became widely used from the 11th to 15th centuries. Bodkin-style points were used by European armies. Their simple design made them practical, affordable, and easy to make in large quantities.
This arrowhead has a classic Bodkin point, with a long, tapered spike with a narrow profile. It is hand forged from iron, so it is strong, durable, and has an authentic medieval look. The bodkin point arrow design helps in drawing all the force to one particular point and can slip between mail rings or even affect weak and vulnerable areas of the armor.
The narrow shape and taper also help in flight stability for archery, which made this popular with medieval archers. This piece shows the historical bodkin tip arrow style used during the High and Late Medieval periods, during the Hundred Years’ War. As one of the most common bodkin arrow points, it shows the practical weapons used by soldiers.
This arrowhead is suitable for display, LARP, education, or mounting on a wooden shaft for presentation.
