Description
Medieval Rodella Round Steel Shield – 20 Gauge This Round shield is inspired by the rodella design used by medieval foot soldiers and guards in Europe. Known for its simple design and effectiveness, this circular shield gave reliable defense with freedom of movement during close combat and formation fighting.
Crafted from 20-gauge mild steel, the shield gives a strong and manageable build suitable for use. Measuring 23 inches in diameter, it gives a balanced coverage without too much weight, making it practical for training, stage combat, or historical display. The smooth, polished steel face is left plain, for easy customization with paint, heraldry or decorative finishes according to the user’s choice.
The reverse side has a padded backing for comfort, with an adjustable genuine leather strap with a steel buckle. A vertical steel grip gives more stability and control, helping maintain balance during use or display.
Historically, shields of this style were used throughout Europe and are often associated with the medieval shield tradition. Similar designs were also favored in earlier periods, influencing later interpretations such as the Viking Round Shield. Its shape, sometimes referred to as a circle shield, made it versatile for both offense and defense, while the steel construction made it durable just like a traditional steel shield.
Whether used for theatrical performance, collection, or wall display, this Round shield is a timeless piece of medieval craftsmanship.
