Description
This chainmail skirt is made from 9mm flat dome riveted rings alternated with flat solid rings, creating a dense and durable weave. Made from 17-gauge mild steel, it provides excellent protection while maintaining flexibility for active movement. The European 4-in-1 pattern ensures historical accuracy, combining resilience with authentic medieval craftsmanship.
The split front design allows ease of walking, riding, and combat maneuvers, while the adjustable waistband with lacing ensures a secure and customizable fit. This versatile skirt can be worn under plate harnesses for layered defense or over padded garments for standalone protection.
Mail skirts, or faulds, were widely used in the 13th–15th centuries to protect the hips, groin, and upper thighs. Favored by both knights and foot soldiers, they were especially valuable in bridging the gap between torso armor and leg defenses. The alternating riveted and solid flat-ring construction was a premium method, strengthening the weave at stress points while preserving flexibility.
