Description
Step into the role of a Norman warrior with our Spangenhelm Helmet with Face Plate—a faithful reproduction of one of the most iconic helmets of the early Middle Ages. Known for its riveted framework (Spangen) and fitted face guard, this style was favored by Normans, Vikings, and Crusaders for its strength, practicality, and layered protection.
The helmet is built with a segmented steel dome, fixed by riveted bands for durability and authenticity. Its face plate protects the lower face while still allowing good visibility and airflow, ideal for reenactments, training, or roleplay. The overlapping design adds extra defense against blows and projectiles.
Made from 16-gauge mild steel, the helmet provides solid protection without being too heavy. Inside, a stitched leather suspension liner cushions the head and spreads weight evenly for comfort. A leather chin strap with buckle keeps the helmet secure whether worn in combat or displayed as a collector’s piece.
Widely used across Europe from the 6th to 12th centuries, this Spangenhelm Helmet became legendary with the Norman knights during the conquests of England and the Crusades.
