Description
This Templar Tunic is an iconic garment inspired by the surcoats worn by the Order of the Knights Templar during the late 12th to 14th centuries. Made to be worn over armor, it shows the powerful symbolism and battlefield presence of medieval crusading knights.
Historically, the surcoat has both practical and symbolic purposes. Worn over chainmail or plate armor, it protected metal armor from direct sunlight and also gave a clear identifying look on the battlefield. The white fabric stood for purity and devotion, while the bold red cross represented the sacred vows taken by Templar warriors to defend their Holy Land. This easily recognizable design made the Templar Tunic a huge symbol for allies and a fearsome sight for enemies.
Made from 100% cotton canvas, this Templar Tunic is breathable as well as durable, making it suitable for long hours of wear during training, events or stage performances. Its cut gives a comfortable fit over gambesons, chainmail, or plate armor without restricting movement of the wearer. With a length reaching below the knees, it gives lower-body coverage, closely like historical examples used by Crusader forces.
Whether used as a Crusader knight tunic for costumes, a crusader tunic for educational displays, or a knights templar tunic for stage and film use, this garment is faithful to the medieval look. It also works well as a knights templar tabard, giving a commanding knightly look.
