Description
This lost wax cast bronze Viking oval brooch is an authentic reproduction of the iconic P51 type brooch from the 9th century. Inspired by a historical find in the British Museum, it showcases the intricate artistry of the Viking Age, showing the knot-work, raised domes and rich textural details.
The P51 style Oval Brooch was particularly common in western Norway but became widespread across the Viking world, accounting for nearly half of all known oval brooch finds. These Oval Brooch were typically worn in pairs to secure the shoulder straps of apron dresses and were often worn with with decorative chains, sometimes attached to a central disc or trefoil brooch.
While original pieces were crafted in both modest and high-status versions, this bronze reproduction captures the same commanding presence that Viking women once wore proudly. The lost wax casting process ensures sharp detail and durability, making the Oval Brooch a worthy addition to both historical displays and period clothing.
