Description
This Viking Spectacle Helmet is a tribute to one of Viking history’s most iconic artifacts—the Gjermundbu helmet, discovered in Norway and dated to the 10th century. Its unmistakable visor shape and protective design made it a favorite among Norse warriors.
Hand-forged from 16-gauge mild steel, this helmet features a riveted segmented dome and a one-piece eye-and-nose guard known as the “spectacle” plate. This reinforced facial section safeguarded Viking fighters without reducing their field of vision in the chaos of battle.
Surrounding the base of the Viking spectacle helmet is an attached aventail of butted steel rings, measuring 9mm across and formed from 16-gauge wire—designed to shield the throat, nape, and collar area from incoming cuts. With a head fit of 68 cm, this piece suits most modern L to XL sizes comfortably.
Whether worn during enactments or mounted in a collection, this Viking spectacle helmet adds both authenticity and imposing presence to any Viking-age portrayal. Its powerful silhouette mirrors the strength and spirit of Norse raiders, traders, and warbands.
