Flat Ring Chainmail Leggings Chausses Hoses, Riveted and Alternating, ID 6 mm, Mild Steel

These mail chausses/hoses are directly inspired by the type of protection worn by the knights and some sergeants in the 12th and 13th centuries. They appear for the first time on William ‘The Conquerer’ on the Bayeux Tapestry in 1066. By that time, it was a luxury and that’s not a hazard if only Duke William himself was wearing those chainmail hoses and so many of the other Norman knights were not.

By the opening of the 12th and 13th centuries, it was becoming standard equipment of a medieval knight perfectly completing the knee-length, long-sleeve hauberk making the knight almost invulnerable to most weapons of the time.

This pair of leggings is HANDMADE from 18 gauge mild steel rings with a diameter of approx. 6 mm each, riveted using DOME RIVETS. For increased strength, the rings alternate with SOLID FLAT RINGS. The upper width is about 66 cm, the lower width is about 35.5 cm, and the total length is about 96.5 cm. Please note that these measurements were taken with the product flat on a plain surface. These specific hoses/chausses come with a set of leather straps at the back allowing optimal adjustment. 

Note: This product is carefully coated with a layer of oil when packaged that acts as a temporary (protective) layer against corrosion (rust), which can easily be wiped off using any oil remover or even a dry cloth.
